Frequently Asked Questions about Bread Boxes
Yes. They’re not just decorations; bread boxes create a controlled environment just right for slowing down staleness without trapping too much moisture (which causes mold). Your sourdough loaf can stay crusty on the outside and soft in the middle, just the way it should be.
Store-bought bread with preservatives should stay in its plastic bag, while homemade bread can be left unwrapped once FULLY cooled. Never store warm bread—it traps moisture and quickly leads to mold.
Homemade bread needs a little airflow to stay crisp and avoid mold, which is why bread boxes often have vents and ridged bottoms. Place it cut-side down after slicing for best results. Store-bought bread should stay in its plastic bag inside the box.
HAND WASH ONLY. Before first use, wipe down the lid with a damp towel, and wash the bread box with warm, soapy water. We don’t recommend washing your lid, but rather wiping it with a damp cloth as needed. If you choose to wash your lid regularly, please oil it monthly with a food-grade mineral oil. (Follow our wood care instructions here). Never soak the lid in water, or wash any part of the Bread Box in the dishwasher.
