I’m not your grandma’s bread box (though she probably makes the BEST bread). From first proof to final rise, it took my parents two years to perfect me. I’m a modern, reimagined take on a classic kitchen staple.

Did you know that unlike store-bought bread, which often contains preservatives to extend shelf life, homemade bread has a higher moisture content and no artificial additives, making it more susceptible to spoilage? I do. My specialized design goes beyond having a cutting board for a lid.

Here’s how I’m the total package:

  • Plenty of breathing room: Non-airtight on purpose. Why, you might ask? Bread needs to be able to breathe. Ever seen a French baguette in an airtight container? I didn’t think so.
  • Bye-bye, humidity: There’s nothing worse than going to cut a fresh slice and being met with a soggy center or mold. My ribbed base and non-airtight lid help control humidity, keeping your bread’s texture just how you like it.

Here are some top tips when storing your next loaf in my bread box:

  • Make sure your loaf is completely cool before storing. Not even I can keep up with the moisture release of hot bread.
  • Freshly baked bread can be stored without paper or plastic, bread-side down, or with two halves pressed together to prevent drying out.
  • Bread containing preservatives can be stored in the wrapping it came in.

Care: Please hand wash me only. Before first use, wipe down my lid with a damp towel, and wash my bread box container with warm, soapy water. If you choose to wash the lid regularly, please oil it monthly as directed here.

What’s in a Name?

They call it “breaking bread” for a reason. After all, who can’t find common ground over a fresh loaf? With bread’s notorious reputation for uniting people, we named our premiere bread box after Los Angeles’ Union Station. Considered one of the “last of the great train stations,” Union Station connects L.A. to the rest of the U.S., and we hope it inspires you to connect with friends and family, too.

Beautiful and functional!

I have been baking bread for a few months now, and decided it was time to buy a breadbox so I can leave it out of the refrigerator. I searched around and when I found this box, I knew it was the one. It's beautiful, and I love the color selections (I chose gray for my kitchen). I love the size and the cutting board is very substantial and also a beautiful addition to the box. I highly recommend!

Stylish and practical - perfect addition to the kitchen

Keeping this simple - great design, looks cool, many useful functions, great price. I usually do not get excited about a bread box but for this Sonder version, I am happy to make an exception.

Terrific, attractive product at reasonable price

I wanted a bread box because it’s just my spouse and I at home and we keep wasting bread because it goes bad. This bread box is large enough to fit a loaf and some burger buns or muffins or croissants and its sleek design means it is not an eyesore on the counter. I’m a fan!
