A Perfect Sunday in Silver Lake

Weekend hosting, slow dinners with friends, and a table that looks as good as the food tastes. That's the Sonder life to me. But some of my favorite Sundays don't happen at home at all, they happen wandering my own neighborhood. Here's how I'd plan a perfect Sunday in Silver Lake, no driving needed.

TL;DR: Things to Do in Silver Lake

  • The full itinerary: Ceci's for lunch, coffee at Dayglow or Picnic, a walk north on Sunset Boulevard to Sunset Triangle Plaza, a daytime drink at Marco Polo, dinner at Pizzana, and live jazz at Bar Stella, all walkable, no car needed.
  • Best pizza: Pizzana and LaSorted are the go-tos for Neapolitan style pizza. Pizzana is sit down and known for its fried artichoke, LaSorted is pick up only.
  • Live music: Bar Stella hosts live jazz every Sunday starting at 7pm. Get there by 6pm for a good seat.

What Should You Do in Silver Lake on a Sunday?

Start with lunch at Ceci's, grab coffee at Dayglow or Picnic, stroll North Sunset Boulevard toward Sunset Triangle Plaza, stop for a daytime drink at Marco Polo, have dinner at Pizzana, and end the night with live jazz at Bar Stella.

Lunch: Ceci's

Lunch starts at Ceci's with a focaccia sandwich. My favorite is the Caponata eggplant one, make sure you add burrata. I'm usually not an eggplant person, but this one changed my mind.

Address: 2813 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026

Coffee: Dayglow or Picnic

  • Picnic is better if you're a purist about your coffee. / Address: 3116 1/2 Sunset Blvd, 90026
  • Dayglow specializes in creative iced drinks. / Address: 3206 W Sunset Blvd, 90026

Either one is a great follow up to lunch before you keep exploring.

Walk It Off: North on Sunset Blvd

Slow stroll north on Sunset Boulevard, where you'll find plenty of retail options, and make your way to Sunset Triangle Plaza. On weekends there's usually a rotation of clothing stalls set up, perfect for browsing.

Daytime Drink: Marco Polo

Stop by Marco Polo, inside the Silver Lake Pool and Inn, to grab a beverage and pretend you're on vacation. The al fresco dining and bar area reminds me of Palm Springs, without leaving the neighborhood.

Address: 4141 Santa Monica Blvd, 90029

Dinner: Pizzana

Go to Pizzana for dinner, even if you're not in the mood for pizza. The pasta, salads, and appetizers are all just as good. If you do order pizza, don't skip the fried artichoke.

Address: 3515 W Sunset Blvd, 90026

Nightcap: Bar Stella

Wrap up your evening at Bar Stella with live jazz music, every Sunday evening starting at 7pm. Get there by 6pm if you want a good seat. They make some of the best craft cocktails in Silver Lake.

Address: 3932 Sunset Blvd, 90029

More Silver Lake Favorites

A few more spots I send people to when they ask what to do in Silver Lake:

  • LaSorted – Neapolitan style pizza, pick up only, a great alternative to Pizzana if you want to eat at home.
  • Thirsty Crow – A dive bar with great drinks and happy hour until 9pm every day.
  • Tacolina – Completely hidden from street view. I usually prefer street tacos over restaurant tacos, but these are very good.
  • Night + Market Song – Great Thai food with a festive atmosphere.
  • Seco – Owned by folks from Mexico City, with a European feel and sidewalk seating. A great spot for a glass of wine and people watching.

Q&A

Q: What's a good spot to grab a solo coffee and people watch?
A: Picnic Coffee, they've got lawn chairs right on the sidewalk, perfect for people watching.

Q: What's the best spot for outdoor or patio seating?

  • Cafe Stella – Back open after closing suddenly in 2024 and reopening this past spring. The patio, tucked away from busy Sunset Blvd, feels like a little European getaway.
  • 33 Taps Silver Lake – Casual, lively, and always buzzing. Great people watching, plus happy hour most of the day between the weekday afternoon window and the nightly late night one.
  • Marco Polo – The bar at Silver Lake Pool and Inn. The al fresco patio reminds me of Palm Springs. Perfect for pretending you're on vacation.

Q: What's the best late night food option in Silver Lake?

  • Black Cat – Great cocktails, great food menu, kitchen open until 11pm nightly.
  • Bacari Silverlake – Might be the best Bacari location in LA. Tucked into a hill with multiple indoor and outdoor spaces. Kitchen runs with the restaurant's close, until 11pm Sunday through Wednesday, 12:30am Thursday, and 1am Friday and Saturday.
